Yahoo to launch Asian mobile service
Asia - Yahoo will soon to launch its new Yahoo Mobile service in Asia - a highly-personalized mobile starting point to the Internet.
The service will offer an open environment within which consumers can bring together their favorite content and services from across the Internet. Key features include the Yahoo oneSearch - Yahoo's mobile search service, access to a number of social networks and email service providers, as well as access to Yahoo Messenger, Address Book and Calendar.
"We believe the new Yahoo! Mobile will transform the way millions of mobile users around the world will interact with the Internet," Marco Boerries, executive vice president of Yahoo, said.
"Yahoo Mobile will enable users to create their own Internet starting point on their mobile device so they can better discover, connect to and stay informed about the people and things that are important to them."
The service will be available on the mobile Web, as well as an application developed for the Apple iPhone and other smartphones which are expected to include Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and those powered by Windows Mobile.
Yahoo Mobile will be initially available today through a managed beta program, with general availability expected in the second quarter of this year.
